Never Underestimate The Importance Of Feedback

MeloTel is a company that is all about helping businesses better communicate with their clients. Therefore, it only makes sense for us to champion the act of opening the lines of communication between employers and their employees. There’s no question that a positive and productive working environment can be fostered by the openness and high comfort levels shared between workers and their bosses. This is what makes feedback so important.

As a business owner or manager, one of your top responsibilities is to keep your team members on their toes. Specifically, hosting regular feedback sessions will help them to correct mistakes, get insight on how to better their performances and feel like valued members of the team. Offering feedback to your employees, on a regular basis, also helps you to learn of ways that you can better your business in the eyes of your customers.

Who better to teach you how to improve your brand than the people who work for it?

Your feedback sessions shouldn’t just involve your imparting of advice onto those who work for you. They should also include opportunities for your employees to provide you with feedback. This helps you discover how your customers feel about the products and services you provide. As Know Your Company CEO, Claire Lew explains, accepting feedback from your employees can help you to make better decisions.

“When you stop to take the time to listen to what your employees are saying about what’s happening on a daily basis, you can unlock an incredible amount of insight as to what’s happening at every level of your company,” writes Lew, “Getting feedback is how you can make more informed decisions.”

Feedback alleviates tension in the workplace.

There are far too many places of work across North America where employees fear for their jobs. Fear simply shouldn’t exist in the workplace. It certainly does not breed productivity. Opening the lines of communication and making workers feel comfortable to speak their minds is a huge part of a company’s overall success. On Forbes.com, Cord Himelstein highlights the importance of accepting feedback from employees.

“When an employee holds back information out of fear of losing their job, their reputation or a beneficial relationship, that tension doesn’t go away on its own,” he explains, “If a manager neglects to engage employees in positive, non-judgmental ways, the tension inevitably escapes elsewhere, usually in the form of gossip, sabotage, emotional withdrawal or, worse, anger.”

Feedback helps employees do their best work.

Without receiving any positive reinforcements from the “higher ups”, most employees feel abandoned and unenthused about performing at their bests. However, those who regularly get tips, advice and words of encouragement from their employees feel motivated to be the best they can be at their jobs.

“Employees crave hearing feedback because it helps them perform better,” affirms Lew, “In a study shared in Harvard Business Review, 72% employees said they thought their performance would improve if their managers would provide corrective feedback. For employees, they don’t just want to be patted on the back and told, ‘Good job.’ Employees want the truth. They want to know: How can I be better? What can I change or improve?”
