How Taking Some Time Off Is A Good Business Practice

Today, MeloTel’s Founder and CEO, John Meloche begins his family vacation. As a reminder, he will be out of the office until July 22nd. Any correspondence sent to John’s email address or voicemail inbox will be responded to within two to three days of his return. On behalf of the entire MeloTel team, we wish John and his family and amazingly joyous vacation!

In yesterday’s blog, we pointed out that taking a vacation is actually a good business practice. As a business owner, you’re well aware of how gruelling it can be to be the head of a company. Needless to say, you have countless responsibilities. Taking a vacation, at least once a year, therefore, is necessary. It will help to recharge your batteries in order to take on the many tasks you have ahead.

A vacation will help you to focus on new strategies.

Sometimes, the best place to come up with new ways to grow your business is anywhere but your office. When you’re at work, you obviously have customers and employees to tend to. You have phone calls to answer and emails to return. Sitting and thinking usually doesn’t come with the territory of running an office. A vacation, on the other hand, gives you plenty of opportunities to think things through in peace.

“Time away can provide a business owner the peace, quiet, and space to focus some thought on strategy,” says Andy Kocemba on BizJournals.com, “Getting away from the daily demands and emergencies can free the mind to focus on big picture questions like, ‘Where am I taking my business?’ ‘What are my goals for this year?’ and ‘What improvements can I be making to grow my company?’”

Vacations help you to strengthen your team.

When you’re out of the office, someone else has to be in charge, right? As we mentioned in yesterday’s blog, taking a vacation shows that you trust your team. Putting trust in your team will undoubtedly help its members to feel appreciated and respected. It works wonders for employee morale and team building. Before heading out of the office, be sure to delegate responsibilities amongst your team members wisely.

“If you’ve already assembled that trustworthy team, their usefulness is limited by your ability to delegate,” writes Jim Blasingame on Forbes.com, “Delegating isn’t easy for entrepreneurs; you’ve done all of the jobs, and you know how you want them done. But there’s an old saying that successful delegators embrace, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” If you cringe at the thought of how things won’t be perfect in your absence—get over it.”

Technology allows you to work while on vacation anyways!

At MeloTel, we’re strong proponents for using VoIP-based phone services to keep in touch with colleagues and clients from wherever you are in the world. New technologies have made it so that business owners no longer have to work in their offices in order to make and take phone calls using their business numbers.

MeloTel’s Single Number Reach service enables entrepreneurs to forward their numbers to up to five different devices of their choice. When the number is called, all five devices ring at the same time! It makes missing important calls virtually impossible, even when on vacation!
