Congratulations To Sherry Brake And Her Friends!

On behalf of the entire MeloTel team, we’d like to congratulate Sherry Blake and her four friends, Don Brake, Michelle Dimmock, Sheri-Lynn Blair and William Blake! Sherry and her team are the winners of MeloTel’s latest Facebook contest. As we’ve been promoting for the last month, MeloTel asked Facebook users to simply “like” the MeloTel Facebook page and tag four friends in the comment section below the post about the contest.

Sherry did just that – although, by the looks of things, she included some family members as well – which is totally within the rules! Each of the people that Sherry tagged also liked the MeloTel Facebook page and that made them eligible to win the $200 grand prize. That prize, by the way, has been split between Sherry, who will receive a cool hundred bucks, while Don, Michelle, Sheri-Lynn and William will each get $25 each.

Sherry’s name was drawn during a live Facebook stream this morning.

Feel free to watch it for yourself! It actually started with a little bit of a hiccup. As MeloTel’s Founder and CEO, John Meloche mentions, we tried to broadcast a live stream on Facebook using one of our company computers. Apparently, our security network is so strong, it wouldn’t allow the live stream to happen right at 11:00 a.m. as we promised.

Nevertheless, John took out his iPhone and got our Customer Service & Technical Support superstar, Steeve Martin to direct the live stream using the phone. Joined by MeloTel’s MVP Administrative Assistant, Chantel Cascanette, John was finally able to follow through on his promise to pick a winner of the contest at random during a live presentation for all to see. (We take equity, fairness and transparency seriously, here at MeloTel!).

The contest rules weren’t as easy as we thought.

Before picking the contest winner, John highlighted the fact that all that was required for people to enter our latest contest was to “like” the MeloTel Facebook page, tag four friends and have them all like the page as well. However, we couldn’t help but notice that the online engagement generated by the contest proved that the rules may not have been as easy as we assumed.

“We reached 6,000 people, had more than 1,300 engagements, 460 comments and only 45 people actually qualified,” reveals John during the live stream, “So how does that happen?…The problem is that some people who originally tagged their friends actually didn’t like the actual Facebook page themselves.”

John admits that the MeloTel team is still has a lot to learn.

He points out that one of the biggest issues discovered through the running of this recent contest is that many people have privacy settings on their Facebook accounts. This actually prevented our team from seeing whether or not certain individuals liked the MeloTel Facebook page. Admittedly, some people may have qualified who didn’t appear as if they qualified to begin with.

To remedy that, John got in touch with potential contest entrants to ensure proof of them liking the page. That way, they could be deemed eligible for entry into the contest. “I was actively trying to get people to qualify,” John details, “There’s a feature on the post that allows us to actually invite everybody who doesn’t like the page yet, and we sent them an invitation to try to get them to like the page to get them to qualify.”

Many people ended up liking the contest post and not the MeloTel page itself.

Some people tagged more than four people. And even though those people liked the page, they weren’t eligible. As well, some people entered the contest more than once, disqualifying them from winning the prize money. It’s important to follow the rules!
