Not all blogs are created equal. And that’s because not all blog writers are all that strong. Admittedly, we know that, in many cases, this will all come down to a matter of opinion. But, as far as the MeloTel team is concerned, a strong blog is one that incorporates a number of necessary elements.
Those elements include regularly published articles, information backed up with evidence and SEO-boosting qualities. Let’s take a further look into those elements, shall we?
It’s important to begin with frequency. Yes, well-written content is a must. But if that content isn’t being offered to your readers on a regular basis, it’s not going to account for much. A strong blog is one that is updated no less than once a week. This encourages readers to continue returning to your website, but it also helps to boost search engine optimization – which we will get to shortly. On his website, Jeff Bullas insists that bad bloggers are those who don’t publish regularly.
“This is really basic, but some people still forget that publishing regularly is, essentially, your main task as a blogger,” he writes, “If you don’t publish regularly, people will lose track of what’s going on with your blog, or even forget about you completely, which is not good for business. If, at some point, you get distracted and don’t publish a post for a longer while, just return to your everyday blogging like nothing ever happened.”
The strongest blogs are those that have similarities to essays – but not in length, mind you! While approximately 500 words will suffice for a strong blog post, it’s important for it to include content that is relevant to your industry. When your points are backed up by evidence, or at the very least, strengthened by references to other industry experts, it helps to showcase your strong knowledge and business expertise.
“The most effective posts lay out an argument in a way that leads the reader to agreement of sympathy with the author’s position,” says Darren Rowse on Problogger.com, “They may not agree 100%, but they can see the reason in it, and are forced to make their disagreements explicit (which is why really strong posts tend to have really intense debates in their comments; weak posts don’t, because they’re easily dismissed).”
Let’s just break this down to brass tacks. Your blog’s main purpose is to generate higher traffic to your website. In turn, this higher traffic should help you to generate more business. This is why the content of your blogs should be highly relevant to members of your target audience. The more keywords and subheadings you use, the more likely your site will be found in Google searches relating to your industry-related topics.
“Every post you publish should include some form of SEO (optimization), even if it’s just some simple keyword research and good subheadings,” advises Bullas, “Remember that Google is the biggest provider of traffic online. You can really earn a lot in terms of traffic and recognition if you decide to play their game.”
