A couple of months ago, we dedicated one of blog posts to LastPass and explained just how much easier it had made the lives of everyone on the MeloTel team. We imagine that, just like us, you must have numerous online accounts that you require passwords for. And we can also imagine that, just like we used to do, you use the same password for the majority of those accounts.
You’re not likely to be surprised that you’ve created a big security risk by partaking in that practice. In fact, LastPass recently sent out an email newsletter revealing that 92 percent of people admit to using the same password across accounts in 2009. With this in mind, the newsletter notes that “the LastPass founders knew the online world was a dangerous place (with some scary password habits).”
The LastPass newsletter, however, was sent out with another purpose in mind. The brand is celebrating its 10th birthday! Founded in 2008 by “four security-minded friends” in Virginia, LastPass has grown into quite the phenomenon. The MeloTel team considers it a must-have for all business owners. You can just imagine how disruptive things could get if someone were to hack into any of your accounts. LastPass reveals that, prior to their existence, many accounts were easily to hack. Their recent newsletter reveals that “123456” was the most common password used in 2014, based on breach data. And, in 2013, no less than 3 billion Yahoo! accounts were breached, making it the largest breach to date.
