A couple of months ago, we dedicated one of blog posts to LastPass and explained just how much easier it had made the lives of everyone on the MeloTel team. We imagine that, just like us, you must have numerous online accounts that you require passwords for. And we can also imagine that, just like we used to do, you use the same password for the majority of those accounts.
You’re not likely to be surprised that you’ve created a big security risk by partaking in that practice. In fact, LastPass recently sent out an email newsletter revealing that 92 percent of people admit to using the same password across accounts in 2009. With this in mind, the newsletter notes that “the LastPass founders knew the online world was a dangerous place (with some scary password habits).”
The LastPass newsletter, however, was sent out with another purpose in mind. The brand is celebrating its 10th birthday! And, on behalf of the entire MeloTel team, we’d like to congratulate LastPass on a decade of greatness. To get you up to speed, LastPass is an amazingly secure service that allows you to store all of your web addresses in one “vault”.
By logging in to LastPass using your email address and a master password, you are able to access each and every one of your private accounts without having to type in another password for any of them. LastPass saves, stores and remembers everything for you! The service also creates unique and impossible-to-guess passwords for each of your accounts. Using a random variety of characters, the newly-generated passwords are designed to keep your accounts hack-free.
Ten years into their existence, LastPass now celebrates having helped 16.8 million users (and counting!) to secure their personal and professional online accounts. “What an incredible decade it’s been!” exclaims their newsletter, “It’s safe to say a lot has changed since we first launched LastPass, but our dedication to password safety and cybersecurity has not.”
Founded in 2008 by “four security-minded friends” in Virginia, LastPass has grown into quite the phenomenon. The MeloTel team considers it a must-have for all business owners. As mentioned earlier, it has definitely made our lives easier. We have gained peace of mind knowing that our many online accounts are safe and secure.
You can just imagine how disruptive things could get if someone were to hack into any of your accounts. LastPass reveals that, prior to their existence, many accounts were easily to hack. Their recent newsletter reveals that “123456” was the most common password used in 2014, based on breach data. And, in 2013, no less than 3 billion Yahoo! accounts were breached, making it the largest breach to date.
To celebrate their 10th birthday, LastPass is giving away 100 t-shirts! Share your password or account breach story on Twitter, follow @LastPass and tag #MyLastPassStory for a chance to win a limited edition 10th birthday t-shirt.
LastPass can be installed on both your desktop computer and mobile device and is completely FREE to try out! If you have any questions about how to use LastPass, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 1-888-MELOTEL or use the Live Chat feature on our website!
