You may have noticed how seriously the MeloTel team has been taking the current coronavirus situation. Secondly, we are dedicating ourselves to helping our clients deal with the inevitable matter of changing the ways in which their businesses are run.
As of yesterday, the Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed 103 cases of COVID-19 in Canada. The death toll remains at one. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has now confirmed 1,215 cases of COVID-19 in the United States. 36 deaths have been reported. The past 24 hours have seen a lot of change in the ways in which major corporations are addressing this issue.
Immediately following the discovery that Utah Jazz player, Rudy Gobert was diagnosed with the coronavirus, the National Basketball Association announced the indefinite suspension of their season. Other professional sports leagues, including the NHL, are expected to follow suit. Evidently, the importance of preventing the spread of COVID-19 is reaching new heights. Even Hollywood superstar actor, Tom Hanks has been diagnosed with the infection.
You likely won’t be surprised to learn that the MeloTel team has been receiving a number of calls from clients who are interested in finding ways to get their employees to work from home. In order to assist all our customers, in their disaster preparedness plans related to COVID-19, we are making specific products readily available in anticipation of the higher demand.
As we made clear in our last blog, MeloTel’s cloud-hosted Commercial Phone Services allow your employees to easily work from remote locations. Thanks to VoIP technology, our phone services will let your staff members make and take calls from any location, no differently than if they were sitting at their desks in your office. With VoIP, no landlines are necessary – only a connection to the internet and a receiver!
The first and most sensible option for getting your employees to work from home is to equip them with desk phones. At MeloTel, we provide solutions that allow for your workers’ devices to be registered at home. We do this by permitting their IP addresses on our network. To begin working from home, they will require AC Power Adapters. They may also need to open some ports on their routers if they need to call support for assistance.
Your employees can also take advantage of Cloud Softphone. This is a free app that works on both iPhones and Android devices. With it, your employees can have their own extensions registered so that their smartphones can be used to make and receive calls just as if they were at their desks. All that is needed is a Wi-Fi or LTE network. If you would like us to send our employee their Cloud Softphone Registration, please contact support and request it.
