Why Should You Give Your Customers More Than What They Expect?

There are many components to building a company’s reputation. But it would be hard to argue that there is any one component that is more important than the opinions of customers that are spread among the general public. You could have the world’s greatest advertising campaign. You could offer the best products and services. But if your customer base doesn’t think the world of you, your business isn’t likely to grow in any significant way.

This is why you should endeavour to always provide your customers with more than what they expect of you. What they expect is what you offer. So you should offer even more! Earlier this week, one of our clients was experiencing some computer issues. We used our Team Viewer feature to log into his computer in order to assess the problem he has having. Within minutes, we were able to determine the cause of his computer’s poor performance.

How did we give this customer more than he expected? Firstly, we informed the client about the cause of his computer’s slow down. Secondly, we took measures to correct it for him. Thirdly, we emailed him a conclusive support ticket to confirm all what was done and to ensure that the matter was resolved. And finally, we’d like to note that this particular client isn’t even taking advantage of any of our computer-based services!

Helping him was just something we wanted to do to show how much we appreciate him as a MeloTel customer. To us, that is what giving customers more than what they expect is all about. It’s about showing gratitude. At MeloTel, we’re very thankful to get the support that we get and we want our customers to know it. The fact that we show it is one that plays a big role in securing us the many referrals that we’ve received.

Why are referrals so important? The way we see it, there is no better way to advertise your company than to do it through word-of-mouth promotion. And the only way to secure word-of-mouth promotion is to have customers so happy with your service that they’re compelled to tell others about it. When people aren’t obligated to spread the word about your business – but do so anyway – you know that you’ve exceeded their expectations.
