Still Attempting To Block Spam From Your Email Inbox?

If you have an email address (and who doesn’t?), you’ve very likely been a victim of spam. How do spammers even get your email address? Well, chances are that you’ve inputted your email address into a web form at some point. It’s hard to determine exactly which sites led to the spam you’ve received and it’s just as hard to stop the spam from coming your way. Or is it?

There are a few things you can do to put a stop to the spam inundating your email inbox. Here are five options:

1. Stop signing up for stuff.

To revisit an earlier-made point, don’t plug your email address into any online form. We know this may limit you from a number of things such as contests and purchasing opportunities, so you may want to open a dummy address – one used solely for such purposes.

2. Don’t even think about responding to it.

The last thing you want to do is respond to spam. It’s the equivalent of outright asking for more spam. If you don’t want to invite more unwanted messages into your inbox, forget about replying to spam. Even if your message contains the instructions “please stop emailing me”, you’re not bound to have much success. Also, be sure to never click on any links sent in your spam messages or download any files that have been sent to you.

3. Report it.

Instead of just deleting your spam (it’s tempting, we know), select it and report to your email server, indicating that the particular message is spam. How you’re able to do this depends on who provides your email account.

4. Change your email address.

This is drastic, we realize. And it’s not exactly a great customer service tactic. Having to inform your colleagues and customers of a new email address every so often is bound to lose you some contacts. This is why MeloTel highly recommends option #5.
