3 Reasons Why VoIP Is The Way To Go

In our last blog, we implored you to make the switch to VoIP. If you’re a small or medium-sized business owner in North America, it would certainly benefit you to take advantage of this revolutionary technology. As our last blog explained, there are numerous calling features that make VoIP unbeatable in the world of telecommunications. And as another reminder, VoIP allows you to take your business on the road with you.

Still not convinced that VoIP is the way to go? Here are three more things to consider:

1. Using VoIP telephony will save you money.

VoIP uses the internet to connect with the rest of the world. So, in case we weren’t clear about it in our last blog, by ditching landlines and opting for the internet as your source to make and take telephone calls, you practically avoid long distances charges for the rest of your life! The savings, as you can imagine, are very significant.

“In today’s economy, the successful businesses are the ones that can be lean and efficient,” states Jim Murphy of SmallBizDaily.com, “VoIP provides a clear digital signal and cost savings opportunities that were unheard of 10-12 years ago. Whether it’s inbound toll-free or long distance, telephony costs continue to drop. And with a hosted VoIP model, a large investment in PBX hardware that will be obsolete in a few years is no longer required.”

2. It is much easier to record calls with a VoIP system.

Call recordings are essential in call centre environments. They enable managers and supervisors to provide effective feedback based on the performances of their phone agents. Call centre businesses often herald the call recording as a great teaching tool since agents are able to listen to themselves after completing their calls. Doing so provides them with great insight on how to improve their customer service skills.

The MeloTel team certainly enjoys this facet of VoIP. Each of our calls are recorded and saved as mp3 files which can easily be accessed in order to provide us with clarity about whatever was discussed. This has been particularly useful when interviewing clients for our Client Spotlight blogs as it makes transcribing conversations so much easier. By the way, if you’d like to have a blog written about your business, please feel free to fill out our Client Spotlight Request Form!

3. VoIP requires very little maintenance.

For companies that still use traditional landlines and older telephone models, interruptions, dropped calls, static and other issues are the norm. As a result, they often have to call their telephone companies for maintenance services. With VoIP, maintenance is a breeze. As Murphy puts it, companies that use VoIP “say goodbye to the phone guy”.

“We have all experienced the cost and inconvenience of having to call the ‘phone guy’ who maintains the company phone system,” he writes, “Every time you add an employee, move an extension or want to change the prompts, here comes the guy with the tool belt. With hosted VoIP, business owners can take back control of their phones. You can easily make changes with just a few clicks through a web portal.”
