Sending Our Support To The People Of Houston

The team, here at MeloTel, wishes to express its deep concern and send its best wishes to the good people of Houston, Texas. As you’re well aware, Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc on the city over the past several days and heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the week. At present, relief efforts are in full effect as many people have lost their homes and are in grave need of living necessities.

Most importantly, however, some have lost their lives. At the time of this writing, reports have indicated a death toll of about 30 people due to the flooding situation that is terrorizing parts of Houston. Thankfully, reports have also indicated that the city’s police department, fire department and other rescue workers have been doing a fantastic job helping to bring the city’s residents to safety. More than 6,000 people have been reportedly rescued from dire situations.

News reports explain that Harvey has seemingly been downgraded to a tropical storm, but much devastation has already occurred. And sadly, more is expected. Floodwaters continue to rise throughout parts of the city and conditions aren’t bound to improve at any time soon. Houston has given hundreds of thousands of its residents evacuation orders and the mayor has imposed a citywide curfew between midnight and 5 a.m.

Last night, the New York Times reported that parts of Houston are underneath 50 inches of water. Harris County, within which Houston is located, has endured enough rain fall to fill the Houston Astrodome 3,200 times over, says the report. That’s also the equivalent of the amount of water that goes over Niagara Falls in 15 days.

Needless to say, the city of Houston is experiencing a catastrophe that will take years to reconcile. And, quite obviously, it could use all the help it can get. The MeloTel team is proud to know that, as per usual, Canada is stepping up to do its part to assist with relief efforts. And we’d like to encourage you to take part in them, as we are.

The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations online. “The threat from Hurricane Harvey is far from over as extremely dangerous flooding continues in Texas and parts of Louisiana,” reads their website, “The American Red Cross is working closely with the entire response community – government agencies, other non-profit groups, faith-based organizations, area businesses and others – to coordinate emergency relief efforts and get help to people as quickly as possible. Money raised will enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster.”

MeloTel is the proud provider of cloud-hosted services to business all over Canada and the United States. We work closely with our American clients on a regular basis and share in their despair over the recent happenings in Houston. Our team would like to reiterate its deepest sympathies to those suffering at the hands of Hurricane Harvey.

We also look forward to seeing Houston recover from this extremely unfortunate act of Mother Nature and hope that the efforts of Canadians will play a big role in the recovery and rebuilding process.
